Running for Fun…

Running for fun

Thanks Rachel & Justin!

On July 18th our stellar staff members, Rachel and Justin ran in the 5K Iowa City Rover Roll n’ Run.

This was a fundraiser for the Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center and the Old Capital City Roller Girls.

Justin won his age group, but we are pretty sure he may have been holding Rachel back from winning hers.

Either way we thank them both for participating.

Dirty dogs have more fun…

Do you have a dirty dog? The Iowa City Area Association of Realtors will sponsor their annual dog wash benefit for the Friends of the Animal Center Foundation. This will be held Sunday, August 15th from noon – 4, in the Leash on Life parking lot. Mark your calendar now—and please bring your dirty (or semi-dirty) dogs on down for a wonderful shampoo bath. The shampoo will be donated by Leash on Life. Make sure your furry friends have on a current rabies tag, or have their certificate with them. What a fun way to spend the afternoon: your dog gets clean, someone else gets dirty, and the Adoption Center gets help!

Think, think, think…

Genius Toy

Genius!

The Buster Cube and IQ Treat Ball are just the latest treat dispensing dog toys that we carry. Both the Cube and IQ ball are adjustable.

You get to decide how hard or easy it will be for your dog to dislodge a treat.

These toys are a great way to keep your dogs skilled over the summer break, you would not want them falling behind when they head back to school in the fall.

What to Put in the new Toy?

Mini Naturals & Charlee Treats

Toy Stuffers

Now that you have your new interactive dog toy, what do you put in it?

Some people will put their dog’s entire meal in a treat dispensing toy. This idea keeps your dog thinking and active, it also helps with the dog that gulps their meal. If you prefer to use treats we have a couple suggestions for you.

Zukes are popular because of their size and dogs love the taste and soft texture. They do not contain wheat or corn.

Charlee Bear has three flavors of treats—turkey liver & cranberry, plain liver or egg & cheese.

Regardless of flavor, all of these crunchy treats can be part of a great program to reward good behavior without adding lots of calories. With only 3 calories in each treat, you can reward often without worrying about unwanted weight gain. Even if you don’t have a treat toy there are many benefits to having treats handy for your dog.

One of the best is to provide positive reinforcement for good behavior. A small tasty treat that they love will do the trick. An added bonus: Charlee Bear treats can be carried in your pocket without stains or smells.
